Visual Learning describes how we gather and process information from illustrations, diagrams, graphs, symbols, photographs, icons, and other visual models. Long before children can read—or even speak many words—they are able to assimilate visual information with ease. By the time they reach pre-kindergarten age (3–5), they are accomplished visual learners.

Stuart J. Murphy's I See I Learn books build on this natural talent, featuring simple stories, reinforced with visual learning strategies such as inset pictures, diagrams and highlighted words that help young children learn the life skills they need to  prepare for school and enjoy happy, productive lives.

Each story focuses on a specific skill from one of four domains: Social, Emotional, Health and Safety and Cognitive. Stories are modeled on real life situations and, just as in real life, often involve more than one skill. For example, the story Freda Plans a Picnic focuses on sequencing, a cognitive skills, but the picnic itself is a social event. Percy Plays It Safe teaches playground safety skills, but playing successfully in a group also requires self regulation, an emotional skill, and cooperation, a social skill.

I See I Learn books include a special two page section called A Closer Look that features a visual recap of the highlighted skill and a series of questions designed to help parents, teachers and caregivers extend the learning beyond the book.

I See I Learn: For happier, healthier, more confident children!
